What is the difference between aluminum plate, aluminum zinc plate and galvanized plate

  • Aluminum-coated steel sheet: Aluminum-coated steel sheet is a steel sheet coated with an aluminum-silicon alloy, in which the aluminum content is 90% and the silicon content is 10%.
  • Alu-zinc-coated steel sheet: The surface coating of the galvanized steel sheet is composed of 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc and a small amount of other elements.
  • Galvanized steel sheet: Galvanized steel sheet refers to a steel sheet with a layer of zinc on the surface.

The difference between galvanized sheet and galvalume sheet:

When both sides of the 55% aluminum-zinc alloy coated aluminum-zinc steel sheet are exposed to the same environment, it has better corrosion resistance than the galvanized steel sheet of the same thickness. The 55% aluminum-zinc alloy coated aluminum-zinc steel sheet not only has good corrosion resistance, but also has excellent adhesion and flexibility.

The main difference between galvanized sheet and galvanized aluminum sheet lies in the difference in the coating. A layer of zinc material is evenly distributed on the surface of the galvanized sheet, which plays an anodic protection role for the parent material. That is to say, the alternative corrosion of the zinc material protects the use of the parent material. Only when the zinc is completely corroded can the parent material inside be damaged.

The surface coating of galvanized sheet is composed of 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc and a small amount of other elements. Under the microscopic level, the surface of galvanized coating is a honeycomb structure, and zinc is contained in the “honeycomb” composed of aluminum. In this case, although the galvanized coating also plays the role of anodic protection, on the one hand, due to the reduction of zinc content and on the other hand, due to the fact that the zinc material is wrapped in aluminum and is not easy to electrolyze, the role of anodic protection is greatly reduced. Therefore, once the galvanized sheet is cut, the cut edge will quickly rust under the condition of basically losing protection. Therefore, the galvanized sheet should be cut as little as possible. Once cut, anti-rust paint or zinc-rich paint should be used to protect the edge to extend the service life of the sheet.

The full name of aluminized steel sheet is “hot-dip aluminized steel sheet”. In terms of manufacturing process, it is similar to hot-dip galvanized steel sheet. However, its heat resistance is better than that of galvanized steel sheet. Aluminized steel sheet has the following 5 characteristics:

  • High temperature resistance: Due to the specific combination of steel plate substrate and coating structure, an iron-aluminum alloy is formed, which makes the aluminum plate have excellent high temperature resistance. At 450℃, extremely high reflectivity can be guaranteed. At above 480℃, the coating has a gray appearance. At up to 650℃, the protective layer that prevents the steel plate from oxidation is still intact without any shedding.
  • Heat reflectivity: At a high temperature of 480 degrees Celsius, the aluminum plate can reflect 80% of the incident heat. Therefore, the aluminum plate can be made into an efficient thermal insulation barrier or a heat reflector in high-temperature applications, which can quickly increase the temperature in the furnace through effective heat reflection.
  • Mechanical strength: At room temperature, the mechanical strength of the aluminum plate is consistent with the mechanical strength of its substrate. At the same high temperature of 480℃, the strength of the aluminum-plated steel plate is 10 times that of the aluminum plate, so the thickness of the steel plate can be reduced by at least 30%.
  • Corrosion resistance: During the hot-dip plating process, the molten aluminum immediately reacts with oxygen in the air to form an Al2O3 protective layer, which immediately passivates the surface of the steel plate. This protective layer is very stable and insoluble in water. Even if the surface of the steel plate is scratched later, this protective layer has a self-healing function. Therefore, the aluminum-plated plate has a strong corrosion resistance to chemical corrosion.
  • Ecological characteristics: Aluminum-plated plates that are not chemically passivated have no effect on health and can be used in food processing. Test reports from many professional groups have confirmed that it is harmless to the human body and is an environmentally friendly product. Aluminum-plated plates can be completely recycled. Aluminum-plated plates can be comparable to stainless steel, but the price is only about one-third of stainless steel.
