Frequently Asked Questions
Prepainted aluminum coil is aluminum sheet material coated with organic paint through a continuous coil coating process. It combines the lightweight properties and corrosion resistance of aluminum with decorative colors and additional surface protection.
Commonly used alloys include 3003, 3105, and 5052. Alloy 3003 offers good formability and corrosion resistance, 3105 is widely used in building applications, and 5052 provides higher strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The appropriate grade depends on the intended application and forming requirements.
PVDF coatings provide excellent weather resistance, UV stability, and color retention, making them suitable for long-term exterior applications. PE coatings offer good color variety and cost efficiency, making them suitable for interior decoration and general building applications.
Coating thickness depends on the paint system and application requirements. Typical specifications include approximately 15–25 μm for the top coat and 5–10 μm for the back coat. PVDF and other high-performance systems may require different thicknesses according to the manufacturer's specifications.
Prepainted aluminum coil uses aluminum alloy as its substrate, while PPGI uses galvanized steel and PPGL uses aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel. Aluminum coils are lighter and naturally corrosion-resistant, whereas PPGI and PPGL offer the strength and structural characteristics of steel substrates.
