Frequently Asked Questions
Zn-Al-Mg coated steel coil is steel strip coated with a metallic alloy containing zinc, aluminum, and magnesium. The coating provides enhanced corrosion resistance and is widely used in construction, infrastructure, solar mounting systems, and industrial applications.
Zn-Al-Mg coatings typically contain zinc, aluminum, and magnesium in varying proportions. Common commercial compositions include approximately 1–3% aluminum and 1–3% magnesium, with zinc making up the balance. Exact compositions depend on the manufacturer's coating technology and product specification.
Key advantages include high corrosion resistance, improved cut-edge protection, good coating adhesion, and reduced maintenance requirements in suitable environments. These properties make Zn-Al-Mg steel an attractive alternative to conventional galvanized steel for demanding applications.
Compared with conventional hot-dip galvanized steel, Zn-Al-Mg coated steel generally offers improved corrosion resistance and better protection at cut edges. However, actual performance depends on coating composition, coating mass, steel grade, processing conditions, and exposure environment.
Zn-Al-Mg steel contains zinc, aluminum, and magnesium, while Galvalume-type steel typically contains approximately 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. Their coating compositions and corrosion protection mechanisms differ, making them suitable for different applications.
